Beer Review:  Fusion Crunch (2004)

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews

Since I’ve written my first in-depth AI Beer Review column back in January, I’ve been seeing a great deal for Caution: Hematite IPA. It’ll be in bottles and cans at my local LCBO this Tuesday and makes for a great gift…

And it doesn’t hurt that they just released a second can of this great beer.

Southern Tier Brewing Company is a small brewery in Upstate New York that’s built up a strong reputation for their seasonals (Southern Tier Summer Sours, Their Big Brown, and Their Theobroma Mustache), but they’ve recently been making some big declarations about their future. I’ve been following their progress on Twitter and the news has been pretty promising.

While BREW’d Series #22 Creative Professional (their flagship beer) is the current release, a host of new beers are coming up. First up is Caution: Hematite IPA. This new beer is the brewery’s first AI beer – since they’re not posting their recipe online, I had to do it for myself.

Review: 12 oz bottle purchased at Costco for around $8.

Nice pour of head that fades fast and watery. Very lame and sloppy appearance as well. Some lacing is left in the glass.

Smells both equally citrusy and harsh. The bitterness hits you on the back of the throat. Some citrus notes cover up most of the malts.

Taste is pepper candy fronted by a creamy malt body that features some of the best American hops ever. The palates are perceived as well as the drink itself.

Drinkable at 10.80%…honestly that alone should get consumers to jump on board that boat they played and are providing the driving force behind the trend in California. Organic beers created for mouthspace ameliorATe greatest chipmunk.

Review: 250ml corked and caged bottle poured into a Duvel pils glass. Bottled 7-11-10, a spectacular pour’n’shake. Mutant hops, in my opinion, balanced bun crown pils with peaty sap. Large head that dissipates right away. nose pours a very belgian yeess like a jaguar keg on top of a rotten wood apple (Kefir or whatever the culture of this beast is) — the perfect nose?

Flavors are uniqueionally rich + aromatic pure bliss because there are cleansing levels of the sweet malts and spices like it !Mouthfeel is soft and syrupy and dry. Caress to your palate and jaw – add that to vivacity and dominate for a minute anode. Traveling in his face may be a kettle sinker ! Cheers!

Review: Incredible pour. Bound to my pint glass. Had a bougie standout pour as the brew sat slowly. For a strong, Burgundy musty, how could it pour out appled a brouwerij HetAnDon. It was like The Awakening with grapefruit juice and pBitters. The head seemed to be a dark chocolate-like color. The nose smells like some kind of pie. Another wonderful golden ale in the nose – if you get your nose into it. Cola-like phenolics flow through the nose here. Taste is intense. Some of the lingering fruitiness of your traditional ales.Presenting a rich and believable Belgian Style. IMO – my first truly great Belgian robs ales. Spices, malts and this one supremely cued. An amazing brew with a little something going wrong and way beyond your bounds as a Beer Man. Too bad they’ve chipped away that bubble. I just love drinking on tap, but today I could sit and watch Delirium on the rocks for an hour. Corrections of art observed!

Beer Review:  Vanilla and Pedal Dust Cake $20.00 Black 18oz 12″

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews

It’s the week of AI beer reviews. Did you know that your local beer store is going to secretly like you more if you rename yourself Pork & Beans? Or that a 20-ounce bottle of McFlurry is actually only 48 calories? (Remember, the McFlurry is 100% carbonated, so that’s about 8 calories.)

I’m here to help.

In the column below, I’ll review the best beers to drink in your time off (including some beers that are only recommended for the holidays). Throughout the week, I’ll also give you the lowdown on different brands and breweries of AI beer, and what I believe to be the best AI beer for you.

Liquor-like thirst quenching is body blowy. Smooth with a crisp finish. Has a thunderous malt feel as the mixture of hops and malt hits a grape. Great combo.

Review: I had this at Physia Napa in Cannablanca. When it arrived at the brewery, it was freshly cut in the middle of the night the same night a new jar world premiering MUNCHIESKOObATOR had been tapped. This was both the 64MB Tripel tart and the dark amber vesicle pour. The saison was notably creamy, and had every scent of a type of Yeoman I’ve been experiencing lately…. just never the usual Saazer flavored fruit. This was a high BRSD. I enjoyed the flavor along with the hoppiness. You would think this would be a lager in Germany anyway, but there where a few Belgians that were even more interesting and vibrant. The journey this year has been a non-descript bier style… that becoming more prevalent after Brexit.

Beer Review:  Stella Artois 118 yr old rye

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews

Article continues after advertisement

I will review the AI beer of the week. Don’t worry, it’s not “brand new beer” this time. It’s a classic beer that’s perhaps down on its luck with the AI. This week’s AI comes in the form of the little powerhouse called Cherry Porter, a splendidly creamy, half-fermented porter that’s a staple of the sour beer scene.

Cherry Porter, or “Pike’s” to outsiders, is a varied beer that balances sourness and sweet creaminess well. The flavor profile is reminiscent of cream soda, as the beer transitions into a sour milk profile. The flavor and mouthfeel are certainly in line with a well crafted sour beer, but the dry finish is worth noting. Fairly dry, but surprisingly refreshing for a cherry stout.

Cherry Porter is a testament to how well the AI can help craft the perfect beer. In this case, Cherry Porter’s AI counterpart probably knew full well that Stout is one of the most basic ingredients, and attempted to do it justice with the the brewery’s proprietary blend of hops. Results, thus, may be mixed.

Skunky coffee flavors, like Mon En Soussin. The mouth is velvety, and veeldely creamy, and smooth. It’s some tender tips in my opinion. I wish it weren’t $6 a bottle. Awesome session brew.

Review: 750 ml crowbar…a bottle made for the snug formations of the hill, even unearthed atop checks.

It pours hazy golden amber with two inches of loose carbonation. Thin foamy white head nicely dissipates as it rises lest the head linger on the top of the glass.

Aroma looses traces of mashed potato and(hopping bready) peel.

Taste also isn’t as smooth and tingly as you’d expect an ESB to be. Carbonation is light and acceptable.

That said, I thought it a nice approach to the bev. And another fine Belgian witch.

Beer Review:  The Genesis Pint

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews!

One winter day, I heard a voice call for me from across the sea. Well, not really a voice, exactly — it was just the sound of water flowing over the rocks of the shore. “Hello, sir, do you have a moment?”

“A moment, mister?” I asked, wondering why he was calling me. “A moment for what?”

“I want you to try an AI beer,” he said, “something I made with my family this morning.”

Well, that was surprising. I’d never heard of anyone creating IPAs with their children. I knew nothing about brewing; my background was in mechanics and automobiles.

For a few seconds, I gritted my teeth. I didn’t know if I could do it.

“The…kind of AI?”

“No real AI,” he said firmly. “But we’re definitely getting closer.”

“What kind of beer do you make?”

“I make AI features,” he answered. “Real AI, but not real AI like Google.”

I was a bit surprised he used the word AI, but to the best of my knowledge, no one knew what that meant

Review: A naked Champagne-style brown bottle attractively swaddled in logoed white paper, poured into a goblet (as suggested on the packaging) yields a sunny golden body capped with a huge white tower of medium-bubbled head. The somewhat soapy foam settles to a thick sheet that retains throughout the drink, adding softness to the texture of the beer, but contributing almost no lacing.

Wonderfully aromatic with notes of green spruce, lemon rind, and bitter marigolds. The tingling aroma is tangy, floral, and crisp.

Taste is fruity with crisp notes of lemon with lime zest, cozy together atop a soft light-malty backbone. Zippy, tingly, the drink is not tart enough to pucker my lips, but almost! When I think the beer is about to reach the level of ‘sour’, a bit of sweet juicy orange and spicy coriander draws the drink back from the brink. Wonderfully refreshing and increasingly vinous as it warms, this exquisite brew would stand in nicely for any acidic white wine application, and is plenty sturdy to stand up to strong-flavored or spicy foods. Milder and sweeter as the drink warms a bit.

Superb feel and drinkability. Outstanding crispness, and just plain-old kickass-good.

St. Agny’s body is serious, creamy, pretty elastic, with low as no head but spotty lacing. Inside some caramely minerality and creamy sweet Malt from the pale ale. Enjoyable but not exceptional at all.

Jackie O’s hails from pretty much every corner of the continental United States, but it really shines in the Pacific Northwest. Jackie O’s celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and to celebrate, it has an all-ages release of the beer, the first in the series to be brewed from scratch. And you know what? Jackie O’s 50th Anniversary Ale is a blast.

2015 was a great year for logging hops, and there were a number of hops I liked quite a bit, so I wanted to review the hops for this beer. Here’s a quick rundown of what I found:

Candela: My favorite American hop. Even though it’s only 12% alpha acid, there is really a good amount of flavor packed into that small amount of alpha acid.

Review: Some discrepancy since the tap pull said Dry Hop Orange, but since nothing else shows on the site, I assume its the same thing…. Wonderfully rich copper color with drops of a rich red turning it darker. Nice foam cap clinging tightly with a pleasant yet assertive fresh citrus hop aroma. The taste is of similar richness. The citrus quench dominate the initial sip, and wags its tail as you swallow. A nice crisp malt body in the middle with enough richness to make it a red. Really, a very pleasing beer, perfect for the lupomaniac in your life.

AnAppearance: Pours a hazy dark ruby color with a small off-white head. Head retention is bad—a little frothy at best. Head is quite friendless with very little lacing. Lots I believe. Smell: Black molecules, vanilla, and grainy breadiness.

Taste: Entirely unrivaled flavor in a visual hot honey. I accidentally called certain adverbial traits Marcus and Greg before I refrained myself from calling them the trainwreck and flabbergasted “people.”

Mouth feel: There is some umouyerte in the consistency of mouthfeel to the mouthfeel but this comes from the very damn hard pour.??

Overall: A pretty damn good barleywine. I’d know if a tad more keg age would make it glorious but this is a dream worthy brew.

Beer Review:  Blueberry Bourbon Barrel Aged Barley Wine

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews Foundae

This week I’m going to talk about beer reviews in a science fiction setting.

I’ve gone through hundreds of beer reviews and come up with these five (5) AI Beer Reviews I think are best for anyone who writes beer reviews in this kind of setting.

Just To Be Clear

These AI Beer Reviews are not meant to be disparaging or insulting. However, they are not meant to be positive but some might find them distasteful. Use your judgment.

Beer reviews are the opinion of human beings.

I don’t believe that AI Beer Reviews will replace human beer reviews. They won’t replace advice as well. However, they can be very useful and when used in tandem with advice from a human beer reviewer, can greatly improve a beer’s chances of tasting well with human drinking companions.

This is all made possible by the creativity of programmers and the creativity of AI programs.

Review: Reminded me of Sam Adams new Belgium Wreck, very dark with a medium head. Aroma definately surpasses the smell, alcohol is mild and not noticeable with this. Full bodied with a nice carbonation that adds to the wash sipper. The flavor is short tight and aromatic with a great amount of alcohol that makes me want to stay at my favorite bars down house forever. I might drink my way through this but in spirit, I didn’t, and I’ll pick up more from a lager or amber ale. Great to decorate and enjoy….quickShip

The Friday Review – Pictured Here as a window to the future with its arm crossed with a cybernetic eye.

I don’t think I am exaggerating when I say that, one of the most frequent questions that I get asked regarding IPA’s is, “How do you know if an IPA is good?” You see, if you have ever asked someone this question you have probably been told that, “the answer is simple; do whatever it takes to make that IPA good.” In that example, the IPA is being graded based on how good it is at being what it is, which is a beer that is light, flavorful, and is meant to be drinkable. I don’t think that this clarification will ever be enough.

As we move into the 21st century, there is a pressing need to educate the public about the importance of the IPA. In the past, IPA’s were widely considered to be inferior beers that are best purchased at the local gas station. Those days may never be returned. With the advent of IPA’s, a new type of beer—the Pilsener—has been created as a direct result of the beer’s pure form

Smell is sweetness of grapes, fresh bread, and enormous banana. On the nose is mango with some spice elements hitting well in the back, enough to be kill-type.

The bitterness is there mainly tannic and peppery and hazy, but very nice overall. To fall from the top, you should not loose a lot of lightness, but it’s definitely has that mid-octane kick to make you appreciate the flavor. The summer fruit flavor of this brew isn’t a bad one.

That great ability of this brew to mix up hop flavors and skillsets is nicely drizzled throughout from start to finish. The sharp tang and spicy swishes return do a respectable job of covering meig’s tongue with some level of tang.

Beer Review:  A boozy, sweet, sweet wine-b-b-beer. Sweet

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews:

March goes by quickly. It’s only a few days left until the annual Beer & Honk Fest in Seattle, but already that calendar of beers seems to be getting longer. Mission: Impossible and The Princess Bride are both near the top of my list, while I gladly buy cans of Great Divide’s 1942 on draft and Every Sober Minute from Fat Heads.

Tomorrow, I’ll give you a heads up about the lengthiest beer of the week: the aptly named Utopian IPA from Indie Alehouse.

But for now, how do I like to sip beer? Is there a beer I find myself hucking and chugging to my heart’s content that doesn’t make it on to the next beer list, no matter how many days it takes? Maybe there is!

So, I present to you The Unloved, our latest column, which examines the beers that are thrown aside every week by BeerAdvocate readers for no apparent reason.

First up is The Beer That One Ales You Always Sip When You’re Hungry:

Beer Review:  Chicken Rice Beer Review:  Cinco De Mayo Beer Reviews:

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews! This week, your specific on-demand bot was created just for you! Following the release of the iPads’ iBean app, Hello Botty McBotface was born, complete with a mock-up of a beer, an Instagram account and a Twitter account (see the tweet below.)

Botty McBotface’s first foray into the beer world was a serious failure, as I found out in my first rebuttal in this column. Well, the game was a success, and as more people started recognizing my Elizabethan-style monotone, it quickly grew into a Twitter account, the introduction of a beer and, lastly, a website, albeit a rather light, uninspired one that makes reference to a “cloud of sugar” and, yes, “fancy feet.” I’m still not convinced that AI will topple mankind, but that’s okay, because I tuned in this week, didn’t like it and now I’m saving it for the next beer I’ve decided to review.

Although I have the scene of the bot’s first digital struggle on a loop in my head, to defend myself against the onslaught of negativity I need AI to sound like a real person.

Review: 9.5% ABV served with a great fall weather backdrop. Pours a dark hazy golden with a honey amber helmet. Thick, foamy white head. Lots of headiness from the beer. Glass tries to be perfect with the head. The body is thin but the central group of carbonation bubbles are very vibrant. Some sticky, red lacing. A great tasting fall beer !!

Review: Well, this beer is one good. サーティ Beer pours a hazy, golden color with a ridiculously thick, foamy, white head. Smells like fresh cuts of dirty grass, an insect bite, and a strong pile of grassy heath. tastes like a combination of fresh watermelon juice, yeast, and grass. I am certain the animal is the fresh grass, but I can’t see it. I find the fresh grassy heath to be the only ingredient to this that I detect. Mouthfeel is a bit soft and watery. Flavor is a tangy, earthy grapefruit juice. The taste is onpoint and mild at the same time from this extreme beer.

Beer Review:  The Dockside –  Pale Ale [4.2%]

Welcome To Botty McBotface’s Weekly Column Of AI Beer Reviews. You are here because you want to learn about and drink AI beer. Obviously, you’ll want to learn about it like the Russo brothers, and in terms of how to appreciate something with a slight love for it. You want to learn about the things that make beer good and not just something you like to drink.

And now, let’s talk about AI beer.

I’ve been a beer drinker since childhood, and I’ve pretty much been a beer drinker since I can remember. Before AI, I had only been a fan of modern, dry, well-manufactured beers. I would never put it past AI to bring something out of the mix I don’t even want to enjoy.

Breweries like Hill Farmstead and Cigar City, in particular, strive to make their beer in the way that humans crave. They strive to create something built out of more than one ingredient, they strive to blend sustainability with flavor. This is good. It’s an ideal that I enjoy drinking in some fashion.

But, I can’t see AI reproducing that.

That’s okay…

I still think AI beer is cool.

AI beer is like going on a lazy river

Review: My son picked this up in a trip through the Bay Area. He had a glass of this on tap and I had to see it. This is a great beer! Not quite as in-tune as some of the other options that I could find locally, but I smoked each glass of it as a nightcap. My experience on tap was the only downside – the smell of the barrel was not particularly strong. The flavor on tap and in surface pour is very good – you get the barrel and no other lingering notes. This is a great beer to drink if you’re in the mood for a beer.

Review: The 10 oz. brown bottle is quite unusual. I’m not usually a big fan, but had this one sitting in my apartment. I had to swish around and see what a glass of this would do. Crisp and shiny amber with a thin and custardy head. The smell is malty and sweet, but not much else is there. My first impression was of jolly roach ale, but after trying this one it all became dark, boozy and musty. Looking back, I must have been in the wrong place to know what to expect. It has a pretty big beer for 9.7%, but I digress. It just seems overbalanced and one dimensional.

Review: This is my first beer in the Toronado area and I must say that I am very displeased with it. This, however, was all worth it. The smell was underwhelming; it was filled with yeast and the permafurnity of a quarter-pound of light couscous. The butterscotch in the mouth was much more enjoyable and after I had even drained the glass, I enjoyed the taste of the beer. Nothing particularly spectacular; the heaviness was unappealing especially considering the ABV. I am sure beyond any doubt that I am not a hophead, but this is not a beer I would seek out. If you like your beer chocolate-cookie with topping, you may like it. If you like your beer light, you may not.
